Design Against Static Load
GATE 2022
Easy
A square threaded screw is used to lift a load W by applying a force F. Efficiency of square threaded screw is expressed as
- The ratio of work done by W per revolution to work done by F per revolution
- BW/F
- CF/W
- DThe ratio of work done by F per revolution to work done by W per revolution
Explanation
Efficiency of a screw jack is defined as useful work output (raising the load W through the lead per revolution) divided by the work input (force F moved through the effort's circumferential distance per revolution) — i.e., work done by W per revolution ÷ work done by F per revolution.
