Given below are three conclusions drawn based on the following three statements. Statement 1: All teachers are professors. Statement 2: No professor is a male. Statement 3: Some males are engineers. Conclusion I: No engineer is a professor. Conclusion II: Some engineers are professors. Conclusion III: No male is a teacher. Which one of the following options can be logically inferred?
- Only conclusion III is correct
- BOnly conclusion I and conclusion II are correct
- COnly conclusion II and conclusion III are correct
- DOnly conclusion I and conclusion III are correct
Explanation
Since all teachers are professors (Stmt 1) and no professor is male (Stmt 2), no teacher can be male — Conclusion III follows directly. Conclusion I ('no engineer is a professor') overreaches: we only know the male engineers (from Stmt 3) aren't professors, not that ALL engineers aren't. Conclusion II ('some engineers are professors') isn't supported either, since nothing links any engineer to being a professor. Only Conclusion III is correct.
