Block 2 slides outward on link 1 at a uniform velocity of 6 m/s as shown in the figure (at radius 100 mm from the fixed pivot O at this instant). Link 1 is rotating at a constant angular velocity of 20 radian/s counterclockwise. The magnitude of the total acceleration (in m/s²) of point P of the block with respect to fixed point O is __________.

243.3 m/s²(± 1 accepted)

Explanation

For a block sliding radially on a rotating link with constant ω and constant relative (sliding) velocity vrel, the total acceleration has a centripetal component ω²r and a Coriolis component 2ωvrel, which are mutually perpendicular. a = √[(ω²r)² + (2ωvrel)²] = √[(20²×0.1)² + (2×20×6)²] = √[40² + 240²] = √(1600+57600) = √59200 ≈ 243.3 m/s².
