Medium
For a heat exchanger, ΔTmax is the maximum temperature difference and ΔTmin is the minimum temperature difference between the two fluids, LMTD is the log mean temperature difference, and Cmin/Cmax are the minimum/maximum heat capacity rates. The maximum possible heat transfer (Qmax) between the two fluids is
- ACmin · LMTD
- Cmin · ΔTmax
- CCmax · ΔTmax
- DCmax · ΔTmin
Explanation
In the effectiveness-NTU method, Qmax = Cmin × ΔTmax — the maximum possible heat transfer is limited by whichever fluid has the smaller heat capacity rate, over the full inlet temperature difference between the two streams.
