Bernoulli's Equation & Flow
GATE 2016
Hard
For a certain two-dimensional incompressible flow, the velocity field is given by 2xy·î - y²·ĵ. The streamlines for this flow are given by the family of curves
- Ax²y² = constant
- xy² = constant
- C2xy - y² = constant
- Dxy = constant
Explanation
Streamline equation: dx/u = dy/v → dx/(2xy) = dy/(-y²) → -y dx = 2x dy → dx/x = -2dy/y → ln x = -2 ln y + C → xy² = constant.
