A shaft with a circular cross-section is subjected to pure twisting moment. The ratio of the maximum shear stress to the largest principal stress is
- A2.0
- 1.0
- C0.5
- D0
Explanation
Pure torsion is a state of pure shear (τ on the shaft surface). Mohr's circle for pure shear gives principal stresses σ1=+τ, σ2=-τ, so the largest principal stress equals τ, the same as the maximum shear stress. Ratio = 1.0.
