A refrigerator uses R-134a and operates on an ideal vapour-compression refrigeration cycle between 0.14 MPa and 0.8 MPa. The mass flow rate of refrigerant is 0.05 kg/s. Given h=272.05 kJ/kg (superheated vapour at 0.8 MPa, condenser inlet) and h=93.42 kJ/kg (saturated liquid at 0.8 MPa, condenser exit), the rate of heat rejection to the environment is __________ kW.
8.93 kW(± 0.03 accepted)
Explanation
Heat rejected in the condenser = mdot × (h_condenser_in - h_condenser_out) = 0.05 × (272.05-93.42) = 0.05×178.63 ≈ 8.93 kW.
