A link OB is rotating with a constant angular velocity of 2 rad/s in counter clockwise direction and a block is sliding radially outward on it with an uniform velocity of 0.75 m/s with respect to the rod. If OA=1 m (the block's current position along the rod), the magnitude of the absolute acceleration of the block at location A in m/s² is
- A3
- B4
- 5
- D6
Explanation
Since ω is constant, angular acceleration α=0, so the tangential component rα vanishes. The absolute acceleration has only two components: centripetal ω²r=2²×1=4 m/s² (along the rod, toward O) and Coriolis 2ωVr=2×2×0.75=3 m/s² (perpendicular to the rod), since the relative velocity 0.75 m/s is uniform (relative acceleration=0). These two components are mutually perpendicular: |a|=√(4²+3²)=√25=5 m/s².
