Medium
A cylinder contains 5 m³ of an ideal gas at a pressure of 1 bar. This gas is compressed in a reversible isothermal process till its pressure increases to 5 bar. The work in kJ required for this process is
- 804.7
- B953.2
- C981.7
- D1012.2
Explanation
For a reversible isothermal process on an ideal gas, W = P1V1·ln(V1/V2) = P1V1·ln(P2/P1) (since P1V1=P2V2). W = 100 kPa × 5 m³ × ln(5/1) = 500×1.6094 ≈ 804.7 kJ.
