Tooth interference in an external involute spur gear pair can be reduced by
- Adecreasing center distance between gear pair
- Bdecreasing module
- Cdecreasing pressure angle
- increasing number of gear teeth
Explanation
Interference occurs when the tip of one gear's tooth digs into the non-involute (root) portion of the mating gear's tooth. Increasing the number of teeth (for a given module, i.e. increasing pitch diameter) reduces the base circle's curvature relative to the tip circle, reducing the tendency toward interference; decreasing pressure angle or module, or decreasing center distance, all make interference worse or are unrelated correctives.
