Match the items in Column I and Column II. Column I — P: Metallic Chills, Q: Metallic Chaplets, R: Riser, S: Exothermic Padding. Column II — 1: Support for the core, 2: Reservoir of the molten metal, 3: Control cooling of critical sections, 4: Progressive solidification.

  • AP-1,Q-3,R-2,S-4
  • BP-1,Q-4,R-2,S-3
  • CP-3,Q-4,R-2,S-1
  • P-4,Q-1,R-2,S-3

Explanation

Metallic chills accelerate local cooling to help achieve progressive/directional solidification toward the riser (P-4). Metallic chaplets are small metal supports that hold the core in position within the mould cavity (Q-1). A riser is a reservoir of molten metal that compensates for shrinkage (R-2). Exothermic padding generates heat to slow/control the cooling of critical (thick, hard-to-feed) sections (S-3).
