GATE 2008
Medium

Air at atmospheric pressure, dry bulb 40°C and wet bulb 20°C, is humidified in an air washer with continuous water recirculation. The wet bulb depression at the exit is 25% of that at the inlet. The dry bulb temperature at the exit is closest to

  • A10°C
  • B20°C
  • 25°C
  • D30°C

Explanation

In an air washer with recirculated water, the process approaches the constant wet-bulb-temperature line (WBT≈20°C stays essentially unchanged). Initial WB depression=40-20=20°C; exit depression=25% of that=5°C. Exit DBT=WBT+depression=20+5=25°C.
