First Law of Thermodynamics
GATE 2008
Medium
For the same piston-cylinder process (two-phase mixture, piston lifts at 200 kPa, volume increases from 0.004 to 0.006 m³ total), the work done by the system during the process is
- A0.1 kJ
- B0.2 kJ
- C0.3 kJ
- 0.4 kJ
Explanation
No work is done while the piston rests on the stops (constant volume). Once lifted, the process is at constant 200 kPa: W=PΔV=200×(0.006-0.004)=200×0.002=0.4 kJ.
