Bending of Beams
GATE 2007
Medium
A uniformly loaded propped cantilever beam (fixed at one end, propped/simply-supported at the other, span l, load intensity q) has reactions R1 (fixed end), R2 (propped end), and fixed-end moment M. These are
- R1=5ql/8, R2=3ql/8, M=ql²/8
- BR1=3ql/8, R2=5ql/8, M=ql²/8
- CR1=5ql/8, R2=3ql/8, M=0
- DR1=3ql/8, R2=5ql/8, M=0
Explanation
This is the standard, well-known result for a propped cantilever under a full-span UDL: the fixed end carries reaction 5ql/8 and fixed-end moment ql²/8, while the propped end carries 3ql/8.
