Which of the following is/are example(s) of stateful application layer protocols?

(i) HTTP (ii) FTP (iii) TCP (iv) POP3

  • A(i) and (ii) only
  • B(ii) and (iii) only
  • (ii) and (iv) only
  • D(iv) only

Explanation

HTTP is designed to be stateless (each request independent). TCP is a TRANSPORT-layer protocol, not application-layer, so it's excluded regardless of statefulness. FTP maintains session state (current directory, login, separate control/data connections) and POP3 maintains session state (mailbox lock, retrieved-message tracking) — both are stateful application-layer protocols. So (ii) and (iv) only.
