Register renaming is done in pipelined processors
- Aas an alternative to register allocation at compile time
- Bfor efficient access to function parameters and local variables
- to handle certain kinds of hazards
- Das part of address translation
Explanation
Register renaming maps architectural registers to a larger pool of physical registers at runtime, eliminating false (WAR/WAW) dependencies between instructions — i.e. it handles certain kinds of hazards, not compile-time allocation, parameter access, or address translation.
