What is the maximum size of data that the application layer can pass on to the TCP layer below?
- Any size
- B2¹⁶ bytes − size of TCP header
- C2¹⁶ bytes
- D1500 bytes
Explanation
TCP presents a byte-stream abstraction to the application: the app can write ANY amount of data to the socket, and TCP's internal buffering and segmentation logic (splitting into appropriately-sized segments constrained by MSS, window size, etc.) handles the rest transparently — there's no OS-level cap on a single write from the application's perspective.
