Process Calculations
Vapor-Liquid Equilibrium
GATE 2019
Easy
For a single component system, vapor (g) and liquid (f) coexist in mechanical, thermal and phase equilibrium when
- Aug=uf (equality of specific internal energy)
- Bhg=hf (equality of specific enthalpy)
- Csg=sf (equality of specific entropy)
- gg=gf (equality of specific Gibbs free energy)
Explanation
Phase equilibrium (equal chemical potential in each phase, for a pure substance equal to specific Gibbs free energy) requires gg=gf.
