Hard

A→B in a steady-state reactor; 1 mol/s pure A enters at 425°C, product leaves at 325°C. Heat input=17kW. ΔHrxn(25°C)=30 kJ/mol. CpA=0.1, CpB=0.15 kJ/mol·K. The molar flowrate of B leaving, rounded to 2 decimal places, is

0.6 mol/s(± 0.02 accepted)

Explanation

H_in=1×0.1×(698.15−298.15)=40 kJ/s. H_out=(1−X)×0.1×300+X×[30+0.15×300]=30+45X. Q=H_out−H_in=45X−10=17 ⟹ X=0.6. FB=1×0.6=0.6 mol/s.
