Hard
A plant makes H2 and benzene from cyclohexane via dehydroaromatisation (C6H12→C6H6+3H2). It's proposed to switch to steam reforming of cyclohexane (producing H2 and CO2 only). Stoichiometrically, what is the maximum ratio of pure H2 produced in the proposed process to the existing process?
- A1
- B2
- C5
- 6
Explanation
Existing: C6H12→C6H6+3H2 (3 mol H2 per mol cyclohexane). Proposed (full steam reforming): C6H12+12H2O→6CO2+18H2 (18 mol H2 per mol cyclohexane, atom-balance-verified). Ratio=18/3=6.
