A liquid mixture of ethanol and water (stream P, 30 mass% ethanol, 100 kg/h) is split into two streams Q and R by a stream splitter. What is the least number of additional specification(s) required to determine the mass flowrates and compositions of both exit streams?
- A0
- 1
- C2
- D3
Explanation
A splitter doesn't change composition, so Q and R both automatically have the same 30% ethanol composition as P. Only the split ratio (one additional specification, e.g. the flowrate of Q) is needed to fix both flowrates given the known total of 100 kg/h.
