Flow Through Pipes
GATE 2016
Medium
For turbulent flow through a smooth pipe, f=mRe^(−0.2). Water at 1m/s gives a frictional pressure drop of 10kPa. What is the pressure drop (kPa) at 2m/s?
- A11.5
- B20
- 34.8
- D40
Explanation
ΔP∝f·V²∝Re^(−0.2)·V²∝V^1.8 (since Re∝V). ΔP2=10×2^1.8=10×3.482=34.8 kPa.
