The equation x³−x=0 is solved using Newton-Raphson with initial guess x=0.5. The method converges to which value?
- −1
- B0
- C1
- D2
Explanation
x1=0.5−f(0.5)/f'(0.5)=0.5−(−0.375)/(−0.25)=0.5−1.5=−1. Since f(−1)=0, it converges (lands exactly) at −1.
