Hard
Gas-phase cracking A→B+C at 300°C has ΔG°=−2750 J/mol. P=1 bar, ideal gas, R=8.314 J/mol·K. The fractional molar conversion of A at equilibrium is
- A0.44
- B0.50
- C0.64
- 0.80
Explanation
K=exp(2750/(8.314×573.15))=exp(0.5772)=1.781. For pure A feed with Δn=+1: K=ξ²P/(1−ξ²). At P=1: ξ²/(1−ξ²)=1.781 ⟹ ξ²=0.6405 ⟹ ξ=0.80.
