Fluid Mechanics
Flow Through Pipes
GATE 2013
Easy
For a Newtonian fluid flowing in a circular pipe under steady state conditions in fully developed laminar flow, the Fanning friction factor is
- A0.046 Re⁻⁰·²
- B0.0014 + 0.125/Re⁰·³²
- 16/Re
- D24/Re
Explanation
For fully developed laminar flow in a circular pipe, the Fanning friction factor is exactly f=16/Re (a classical exact result from the Hagen-Poiseuille solution). The other options are empirical turbulent-flow correlations (Blasius-type).
