Fluid Mechanics
Bernoulli's Equation
GATE 2013
Medium
The mass balance for a fluid with density (ρ) and velocity vector (V⃗) is
- ∂ρ/∂t + ∇·(ρV⃗) = 0
- B∂ρ/∂t + V⃗·(∇ρ) = 0
- C∂ρ/∂t + ρ(∇·V⃗) = 0
- D∂ρ/∂t − V⃗·(∇ρ) = 0
Explanation
The general (compressible) continuity equation, derived from a differential mass balance on a control volume, is ∂ρ/∂t+∇·(ρV⃗)=0. (Options B and C are only valid special/expanded cases, not the general statement.)
