GATE 2012
Easy
Consider the following (2×2) matrix: [[4,0],[0,4]]. Which one of the following vectors is NOT a valid eigenvector of the above matrix?
- A(1,0)
- B(−2,1)
- C(4,−3)
- (0,0)
Explanation
The matrix is 4I, so EVERY nonzero vector is an eigenvector (with eigenvalue 4). By definition, the zero vector is never considered a valid eigenvector, so (0,0) is the one that is NOT valid.
