GATE 2012
Medium
Consider the following set of linear algebraic equations: x1+2x2+3x3=2; x2+x3=−1; 2x2+2x3=0. The system has
- Aa unique solution
- no solution
- Can infinite number of solutions
- Donly the trivial solution
Explanation
The second equation gives x2+x3=−1. The third equation, divided by 2, gives x2+x3=0. These two directly contradict each other (−1≠0), so the system is inconsistent and has no solution.
