Medium

In a throttling process, the pressure of an ideal gas reduces by 50%. If CP and CV are the heat capacities at constant pressure and constant volume, respectively (γ=CP/CV), the specific volume will change by a factor of

  • 2
  • B2^(1/γ)
  • C2^((γ−1)/γ)
  • D0.5

Explanation

For an ideal gas, enthalpy depends on temperature alone, so an isenthalpic throttling process leaves T unchanged (zero Joule-Thomson coefficient). With v=RT/P and T constant, halving P doubles v.
