For a liquid flowing through a packed bed, ΔP/L=150μfV̄0(1−ε)²/[(φsd̄p)²ε³] + 1.75ρfV̄0²(1−ε)/(φsd̄pε³) (Ergun equation). Given d̄p=1×10⁻³m, φs=0.8, ρf=1000kg/m³, μf=1×10⁻³kg/m.s. When V̄0=0.005 m/s and ε=0.5, which ONE of the following is the CORRECT value for the ratio of the viscous loss to the kinetic energy loss?
- A0.09
- B1.07
- 10.71
- D93
Explanation
Ratio=[150μf(1−ε)]/[1.75ρfV̄0φsd̄p]=[150×0.001×0.5]/[1.75×1000×0.005×0.8×0.001]=0.075/0.007≈10.71.
