Hard
For the same single-stage absorber (V=2mol/s, y0=0.1, L=1mol/s, x0=0, y*=x), if the stage efficiency is 50%, then the value of y is
- 1/12
- B1/6
- C1/4
- D1/3
Explanation
Stage efficiency relates the actual change to the ideal (equilibrium-stage) change: E=(y−y0)/(yideal−y0). With yideal=1/15 from the ideal-stage case: 0.5=(y−0.1)/(1/15−0.1)=(y−0.1)/(−0.0333) ⟹ y−0.1=−0.01667 ⟹ y=0.0833=1/12.
