A dehumidifier is used to completely remove water vapor from air (wet air in; dry air and a separate water stream out). Which ONE of the following statements is TRUE?
- AWater is the ONLY tie component
- Air is the ONLY tie component
- CBOTH water and air are tie components
- DThere are NO tie components
Explanation
A tie component must appear, in a known/traceable amount, in exactly the streams needed to close the balance. Since water is COMPLETELY removed, none appears in the dry air stream, so it cannot serve as a tie component linking wet air in to dry air out. Air, however, passes through unchanged (same amount in wet air in and dry air out), making it the tie component.
